Discover Lebanese belly dance with Esmeralda, a true master of strength and sass. Learn what sets Lebanese belly dance aside from other styles, explore the nuances of the dance, it's specific techniques and get ready to get sassy in this fun and dynamic workshop.

Tunisian

Learn the beautiful Tunisian style and how Egyptian dance influenced the second most artistic territory in the Maghreb. Learn how to dance like a traditional Tunisian!

Beautiful Baladi

Explore the beautiful art of traditional Baladi with Esmeralda. This style is typified by earthy  movements, graceful arm gestures, luscious hip layering and shimmies. Esmeralda will explore both technique and theory with an emphasis on tarab/feeling and emotion in the movement. A not to be missed workshop!
Level: Open - expect some challenges for inexperienced dancers.

Drum Solo

Learn masterful new ways to perform the drum solo using Esmeralda's signature style - rich layers, sassy attitude, dramatic pauses, and plenty of stage presence. Challenge yourself with this rich and intense workshop from a master performer.
Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Moroccan Chaabi

Moroccan popular music is used to express feelings, and can be intensely political. Chaabi is the dance of the people and incorporates elements of traditional Moroccan movement, the dance features shimmies, hair sways, bold hip accents. The dance is earthy and joyous in nature and a whole lot of fun. In this workshop we explore the rhythm, technique, and movements that are typical of Moroccan style set to upbeat modern Moroccan Chaabi music.
Level: Intermediate/Advanced

Soulful Saidi

Saidi is the earthy Egyptian folkloric dance incorporating lively steps and playful attitude. Learn a super fun and uplifting saiidi choreography with Ekaterini. The dance uses strong saiidi technique without losing the grace and femininity.
Level: Intermediate/Advanced.
Bring: Cane if you have one, some will be available for loan.

Killer Technique

Take your dance to the next level with the Ruby Lady. Explore new drills, techniques and exercises that will have you training like the professionals. Muscular accents, well executed footwork, layers and loose juicy shimmies will be deconstructed, reconstructed, drilled and blasted and mastered in this intense 2 hour workshop.

Social Dance Extravaganza

Social dance is the essence of celebratory occasions in the Middle-East. Each region has its own music and style for special occasions and parties. In this workshop Kirsty will delve into the dance styles of popular music scenes and social dance styles from Greece, Turkey, Azerbaijan, the Gulf, Iran, Lebanon and Egypt. We will explore the specific social cues, nuances in the dances, and subtlety in dance technique of each country. In this jam-packed workshop we’ll let our hair down and have some fun while establishing a well-rounded knowledge of social dance throughout the Middle-East and Mediterranean. This workshop is perfect for working professional dancers looking to add some new music and moves to their repertoire as well as beginners who are looking to learn more about Middle-Eastern music and dance.
Level: open level
Bring: Shoes with a low heel - this is optional.

Snake! Tribal Fusion

We will be working with slow gooey moves, quick isolations, surprising mood changes, light and shade in this haunting and emotive chiftitelli piece. Use this music or take the movement ideas and combos for your own repertoire.
Level: Intermediate (in any style).

Intro to Belly Dance:
With veil and zills

As an early learner of belly dance the many topics and styles can seem a little daunting. In this fun and informative introductory workshop Johara will take you through the fundamentals of belly dance movement. Learn some key dance steps using hips, upper body, and traveling and learn how to put them together. Additionally we will learn how to move with a dance 'veil' and try our hand at finger cymbals (Zills)! No need to bring a veil or cymbals unless you have them, loan items are available.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate
Bring: We will supply veils and zills available for loan, but if you have your own please bring them along.

Arabic Drumming

Master Tabla player Jamal Zraika is well known for his exceptional technique, vibrant performances, and outstanding teaching skills. He displays a unique musical sensitivity and ability to improvise and embellish the patterns familiar to Arabic Music. Jamal - better known as Mr. Tabla - is one of the most acclaimed performers of the Sydney Arabic music scene. Come and be inspired by one of Australia's master tabla players in this Drumming workshop for all levels.
Level:  Open Level
Bring: A drum if you have one, some drums available for loan.

Stage Makeup 101

Everything you wanted to know about stage makeup! In this fun  hands-on workshop Rita will take you through the Top 20 products to have in your makeup bag. She will demonstrate and Oriental Dancer's glamour look on a model participant then participants will apply the look on their face with Rita's guidance. Some highlights & tips and tricks include - base, conceal, contour, plus Arabic eyes and perfect lash application.
